Age Groups
Finding the right class for your student allows for an enjoyable and positive dance experience. Our age guide is as follows:
-
Preschool (2.5-5 years): Designed for the youngest dancers, focusing on basic motor skills, and introducing them to the joy of movement.
-
Juniors (5-9 years): Geared towards younger children, these classes provide a foundation in dance techniques while fostering creativity and self-expression.
-
Inter 2 (9-12 years): Tailored for preteens, these classes enhance technical skills and begin to explore more advanced dance forms.
-
Inter 1 (12 years and above): Suitable for teenagers and beyond, these classes continue to build on technique and artistic expression, preparing students for more advanced levels.
-
By Invitation - Sub Senior and Senior: For older students who have shown significant progress in their technique and performance. Appropriately challenging for the more advanced dancer.
Our age guide is just a recommendation. Each student is unique and we strive to place students into groups where they will enjoy their classes and thrive. We encourage students and parents to discuss options with Tahlia or Ellie and to trial different classes to find the right fit.
Dance-wear + Footwear
Appropriate dance wear is important for safety and to achieve your best in class. While our dress code isn’t strict, student’s clothing must allow for freedom of movement and not pose a safety risk. We prefer students to wear Creations t-shirt, singlet, or other clothes in our school colours – pink and black. Creations tops are available to purchase during the year (date TBC). Hair must be neatly tied back for all classes. We have a box of second-hand shoes at the studio that you are welcome to purchase from otherwise, footwear can be purchased from Capezio Mornington (12/14 Milgate Dr, Mornington).
NO school uniforms.
NO jeans.
When starting a new dance style, you may wear any shoes that you are comfortable moving in. Once settled in your new class, we recommend purchasing appropriate shoes. If attire poses a safety risk, teachers will ask students to amend their attire if possible. If this is not possible, student may not be able to fully participate in classes. Details for appropriate dance wear for each dance style is discussed below.
Preschool classes:
Our preschool students may wear any clothes that they feel comfortable dancing in. Some students wear casual play clothes such as leggings, shorts, trackie pants, tshirts, dresses, and jumpers. Some students choose to wear ballet style clothes such as leotard, ballet skirt, bike shorts, cross overs etc. Preschool students may wear casual shoes, ballet shoes or jazz shoes. We recommend not dancing in socks. Parents can help students decide what is best for them.
Jazz, Contemporary, Tap and Music Theatre:
Students in these classes should wear clothes that allow for freedom of movement, are fitted in style, and that they feel comfortable in. For example: leggings, bike shorts, singlet top, tights, fitted t-shirt, leotard, dance pants, and other similar items. Students may wear long sleeves or jumpers if they aren’t too baggy and don’t cover the hands or face. Black jazz shoes for jazz classes. Pirouettes, Foot Undeez or bare feet for contemporary. Black tap shoes for tap classes.
Hip Hop:
Attire for Hip Hop is similar to jazz. Loose fitting and baggy clothing are acceptable for hip hop however, clothes must not cover hands or faces and allow for freedom of movement. Hip hop students wear casual sneakers in class. For performances, Inter hip hop students wear black sneakers and Senior students wear white sneakers.
Ballet:
Ballet students wear leotard and tights. Additionally, students may choose to wear skirt, shorts, long sleeve top etc. Ballet shoes are also required. Pointe shoes may only be used after having an external physical assessment to avoid injury. Students may wear their hair in a bun if they wish however this is not compulsory.
Parent Observation
We love our parents to be enthusiastic about their students dance classes. Below are our guidelines for parents watching classes:

If you're interested in accessing these videos, we encourage you to inquire with your child's teacher about the specific method they use to share class recordings.
Additionally, music can also be made available to students for practice purposes. These resources are so useful for building students’ progress and confidence.
